Recent advice to inspectors from Ofsted included ”It is important that all schools foster equality and ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of all pupils. Governors play an important role in this. In looking at this area, inspectors are not expected to follow a compliance checking model. However, where inspection evidence – for example arising from lesson observations, observations of pupils around the school and discussions with pupils and staff – indicates that there may be concerns about equalities issues, inspectors should check on the school’s equalities plan and any other relevant policies that should be informing practice.”
